II. Local Production.

The Tai O Salt Pans would be supervised by the Police

there. If a European officer is to be stationed at Castle

Peak, the pans there might be similarly treated, but it would probably be better to abolish them altogether.

I will make further enquiries about the pans at Sha

Tau Kok, but I think these will have to be closed also,

Water Police and the Police at Yauma ti Shamshui pu,

Aberdeen and Stanley control within the home waters should not

be difficult. If necessary, this Department would provide

Co-operation by the Water Police and the Police at Cheung Chi, Tai O and Sai Kung would be required and possibly

at Castle Peak and Sha Tau Kok also. The Salt Depots at Lung

Ku Tan (Deep Bay) Kap Shui Hun (elsewhere, if there are such),

would be suppressed at once.
